Entry #1: Keep it Simple
IT’S ALIVE!
It’s just past 6am here in Portland, Oregon and I’m feeling the exhaustion creeping in. I’ve been up all night putting the final touches on this SITE BUILD VERSION ONE but the heady thrill of creative adrenaline is still keeping me going. Something about the fresh new sensibilities of a creative endeavor blooming that carries with it so much energy.
www.erykdonovanart.com
is finally here.
I have alot of plans for this place, but for the time being I’m keeping it simple.
We’ve got our gallery - Here you can see excerpts from many of the published projects I’ve worked on over the past decade in the comicsphere, including recent work for SAVAGE SWORD OF CONAN, DUNGEONS & DRAGONS, and the MEMETIC 10th Anniversary rerelease that James and all the great folks at Tiny Onion and Boom! Studios put together for us. Next I’ve got a bunch of up close and personal details of commissions, print illustrations, sketches, and paintings that I’ve created over the years including some never before seen pieces from my personal collection, or that were showcased only briefly. I look forward to keeping this space updated with new work, and hope it will be a continued source of pleasure and inspiration.
Next up - The SHOP. It’s open you guys! I’ve had a few people bemoaning this past year how difficult it was to find stuff from me since my etsy store was closed up. I plan on keeping this shop as open as possible, and for the time being forsee only about a million reasons that could change! As it stands - I’m keeping the selection tight for the product lines. We have a limited run of books and prints available, and will continue to update it further with further inventory. We also have an extensive selection of original artworks, published works, sketches, paintings, and even a few rare personal works for those of you who like to collect or see something a little different. Any Commission orders I receive on or before NOVEMBER 29th will be finished in time for the CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY 2024.
and of course that brings us here.
The Journal.
Many of you may remember or know me from my early student blogging days, or perhaps before the exploration of visual art took me so thoroughly. I’m not making any promises today about regular updates, topics, etc. soforth - I’ve been especially bad at that in fact over the past few years on a variety of levels - but I am glad to have this space here to drop a few words and updates separate from the complete absurdity that is our social media apparatus in 2024. I’ve long been a fan of Twitter (Now called X), but I’ve become very disenchanted with much of the discourse and movements happening through social media in the past few years, it’s become a red hot, raw throbbing nerve of a beast that I still don’t think any of us fully understand. Now as I watch increasingly more friends, industry colleagues, and collaborators shifting away from platforms as they disentegrate, or just use them less it becomes more and more important to shape at least a bit of my own space. I’ll still be updating my Twitter occasionally with news, chatting with folks on Blue Sky, or updating Instagram with a snapshot of the desk, the rainy Pacific Northwest skies, or some cat I met on the sidewalk. It’s an engine that is helpful and useful as much as it is all consuming, and I’m adjusting the way I’m considering it. For now I’m trying to be more focused in my day to day relationships with friends, family, and local community.
Coming into the New Year, I have alot more to talk about here - Including HEAVY, New Projects, convention appearances, and a few other concepts I’ve been toying around with for awhile. Right now as we all stare into a future of uncertainty, in a world so full of desperation, terror, and heartache - I believe there is so much more magic to see. I’m here to draw about it, and I’m here to write about it. I hope you’ll come along with me.
Much Love.
